Our Training

All practitioners registered on this website have been taught by Eliot Cowan through ongoing assignments and examination in clinical skills. All have attained a satisfactory level of competence to practice.

The practitioner training course includes the following:

• The Classic Chinese Five Element approach to health and disease
• Understanding emotions and their effects on human body-mind-spirit.
• Developing the felt senses: touch, sight, smell and hearing
• The diagnostic keys: Colour, Sound, Odour, Emotions
• The Art of Pulse Taking and Listening
• Communicating with Plant Spirits
• Nurturing relationships with Plant Spirits
• Understanding types of Plant Spirits
• Working with Plant Spirits in a therapeutic way
• Blocks to treatment and their correction
• Therapeutic rapport between patient and practitioner
• Professional boundaries and ethics
• Setting up a professional practice

Training aims to cultivate practitioners' commitment to embodying the Five Elements through awareness, observation and practical skills, to the formation of life-long alliances with plant spirits, as well as to the service of their community and patients.

Continuing professional development is also encouraged along these lines through peer group support, clinical training days, provision of an annual international conference, regional meetings and other means.
